What God Says About You

Romans 12:2

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

What God Says About You

A lot of people struggle with their identity. The world encourages you to look within yourself for your identity. And often many of you look for your identity in external things like your job/career, business, success, status, relationship statuses, appearance, reputation, and so on. But as followers of Christ, we are called to find our identity in Him.

None of these external things are permanent. You can lose your job, your business can go under, relationships come and go, your reputation can get tainted by lies, and we all know outwardly appearance changes as you get older.

But the good news is that God doesn’t change, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If you find your identity in Him, you will realize that all these temporary things are not tied to your true identity. To understand your identity in Him it begins with you understanding who He is, what He says about Himself, and what He says about you.

To get to know Him you must get in the Word of God. You see the word of God is God. If you do not get in the word and get to know God then you will never find your identity in Him because you will not know Him.

Let’s talk about what lies you have been believing about yourself. You see the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy and he has been planting seeds of lies from the beginning even way back in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.

What lies has the enemy been whispering on your ear that you are believing?

In the book of Ephesians when it says to put on the full armor of God, one of the things we need to remember to put on daily is the mind of Christ. When the enemy whispers a lie in your ear you need to remind the enemy that he’s a liar and you need to replace that lie with God’s truth.

One of my favorite scriptures that I hold near to my heart is 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold the new has come.” When I came to Christ that was one of the first things the Holy Spirit revealed to me, that I am now a new creation in Christ and the old is gone and the new is here. It was such an amazing revelation and so freeing.

Over the years you might have grown to believe all sorts of lies about yourself. You may say things that aren’t true, but if you truly knew your identity in Christ you would not tell yourself the things that you do.

I want to remind you that God says He has given you a new name.

In Revelations 2:17 it says;

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.”

So, I am reminding you today to receive God’s new name and surrender all the names, all the lies you have received and believed about yourself over the years. Today agree, receive, and believe what God says about you because He loves you more than anyone ever will, and he knows you more than you know yourself.

I do not know what names and lies you have received and believe about yourself but today I want to remind you that they are not true, and I want to remind you about what God says about you. I know there have been times you have felt alone, maybe you are feeling alone right now. But can I tell you that God is always with you.

In the book of Joshua chapter 1 verse 9 it says;

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

I know there have been circumstances and situations you have been through that have left you feeling unloved and even unlovable. But let me be the one to remind you that God loves you more than you will ever know.

In Romans 8:38-39 it says;

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries for tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below- indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Isn’t that amazing? Nothing can separate us from His love.

You might be going through something right now that has left you feeling weak, but God says you are strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says;

“My grace is all you need, for my power is the greatest when you are weak.”

You don’t have to rely on your own strength. Rely on His strength. Remember in your own strength you can do nothing, but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

You may be struggling with guilt from sins you are struggling with, but God says that you are forgiven.

Romans 7:19-25

“I have discovered this principle of life-that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to sin that is still within me.”

1 John 1:9 says;

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

When you feel bad when you do something you know you should have not done that is a good sign. It’s when you feel no remorse and you are living comfortably in your sin that it’s a problem.

You may be struggling with feeling abandoned but God says you are adopted.

Ephesians 1:5 says;

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”

You may be feeling broken, but God says that He makes you whole.

Psalm 73:26 says;

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

God is your portion. He is a part of your whole. You are not complete without Him.

You may be feeling hopeless but God says; “For I know the plans I have for you, they are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

You may be feeling like your life has no purpose, but God has created you with a purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 says;

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

You may be feeling like a failure, but God says you are victorious in Christ.

Deuteronomy 20:4 says;

“For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

You may be feeling lost, but you are found.

Like 15:10 says;

“I once was lost, but now I am found.”

You might be worried and anxious, but God says not to worry or be anxious.

 Matthew 6:25-34

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

You might be afraid, but God says do not fear.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says;

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

You may feel like you are nothing special, but God says you are fearfully and

wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:14 says;

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.”

I can go on and on and bring scripture after scripture to remind you of what God says about you. But unless you get in the word and you yourself believe everything that God’s says about you then it will not make a difference. That is why it is important for you to get in the word for yourself because the Holy Spirit will bring scriptures to your remembrance in time of need. The word of God is our weapon it is sharper than a double-edged sword. And when you know the word of God and you know your identity in Christ, you become a threat to the enemy and his kingdom of darkness.

The battlefield is in the mind so if the enemy can plant a seed of doubt or a lie and you believe it, he has won. So, get up, get in the word, get in relationship with God and get to know Him. Learn what God says about you so that you can fill your mind with God’s truth.

I will leave you with this, remember that your identity is in Christ and in Christ alone. In Him, you find true worth, value, security, and safety.

Shalom!
